the quantity tier attribute feature allows users to create custom quantity tier attributes for price tags this feature is particularly useful when the actual price tiers are not directly determined by the quantity of the line item but by other factors such as the number of active users, integrations purchased, or total rooms in a sales account hierarchy whena user creates a price or discount tag, the user can associate the quantity (or term) dimension with the quantity dimension of a uom at quoting or order time, the actual unit volume or tier prices is determined by the quantity of the line item oftentimes, the actual price tiers are not determined by the quantity of the line item directly the following are some examples example #1 a subscription plan based on active users product a cloud storage service pricing determinant number of active users the pricing tier for the cloud storage service is based on the number of active users in an account instead of the actual of the storage units for example, 1 10 users might fall under the basic tier, 11 50 users under the standard tier, and 51 100 users under the premium tier each tier offers a different amount of storage space and features example #2 the tiered discounting of integration products is based on the number of integrations purchased in the quote minimum # of integrations maximum # of integrations integration discounting min max % discount 1 2 0% 3 5 5% 6 10 15% example #3 the discount tiers of a particular product are determined by the total # of seats in the entire sales account hierarchy in the above examples, the quantity dimension of the price tag is not the quantity dimension of the product uom itself, but is derived from a field of the related object, which can be quote, account, or even opportunity this is also applicable in a change order in the example #1, when the number of users of an account is changed, in a change order, e g , when a quantity is updated, or during the renewal, the sales price will be recalculated according to the tiered pricing determined by the latest number of users in this article, we’ll guide you on creating quantity tier attributes and using them as custom quantity dimensions in price tags to implement a real world business scenario let's get started! \# # use cases we'll be using the following example use case throughout this document example company teamflow sells product teamflow pro an all in one project management platform designed for mid side and large organizations pricing model teamflow solutions offers a tiered pricing model based on the number of employees in an organization this structure ensures that businesses of various sizes pay an amount that scales with their workforce example of tiered pricing tier 1 (1 50 employees) cost $10 per user per month includes basic project management features, team chat, and file sharing tier 2 (51 200 employees) cost $8 per user per month includes all tier 1 features plus advanced reporting, task automation, and priority customer support tier 3 (201 500 employees) cost $6 per user per month includes all tier 2 features plus custom integrations, enhanced data analytics, and dedicated onboarding support tier 4 (501+ employees) cost $5 per user per month includes all tier 3 features plus enterprise level security, unlimited storage, and a dedicated account manager when a sales rep creates a quote for teamflow pro, they will input the estimated number of employees associated with the account, using this field to determine the appropriate user license pricing tier upon renewing a customer, the sales rep wants to adjust the pricing to match the actual tier based on the current number of employees to achieve this, the revops manager can follow these steps create a quantity tier attribute called “number of employees,” referencing the number of employees field on the account object develop a tier based price tag using the number of employees as the quantity tier attribute apply the price tag during the quoting process at renewal, adjust the price to align with the actual tiered price based on the current number of employees of the customer \# # create and edit quantity tier attribute similar to a pricing attribute, a quantity tier attribute is a specific field on an object related to quote line item or order product, such as quote, order, opportunity, account or related custom objects, that is used to determine the volume based pricing tier of a product or service this attribute represents a particular numeric value or metric that influences the pricing structure, independent of the quantity of the line item itself in the context of the teamflow pro, the quantity tier attribute could be the “number of employees ” this attribute dictates the pricing tier based on the estimated number of employees of account associated with the quote or order admin users can create quantity tier attributes in settings → price builders → quantity tier attributes tile when defining the mapping, admin users can choose any number type fields (including formulas) on quote line item, quote, opportunity, account or any custom objects field name description api name the api name of the attribute, which must be unique name the name of the attribute , e g , number of employees description the description of the attribute mapping the attribute mapping specifies how the field value will be sourced only number type fields (including formula fields) can be selected for example,1 from another number type values on the same quote line item\ quotelineitem→numberofusers c 2, from the parent line item\ quotelineitem→parent id→numberofusers c 3 from the bundle line item\ quotelineitem→root id→numberofusers c 4 from the account\ quote line item→quote account id numberofemployees please note that the same mapping applies to the order product object as well, even though we only need to store the mapping for the quote line item if the mapping is on a custom field, the admin users are required to create the same custom field on the order product object as well active the active status of the quantity tier attributes available values are true and false please follow the steps below to create a new quantity tier attribute called number of employees \# # create price tag using quantity tier attribute when a user creates a new price tag or discount tag, and selects quantity as the unit of measure (uom) dimension and volume as the price model, a new field called quantity tier attribute will appear in this field, the user can choose from the available active quantity tier attributes to set tier based pricing note when a sales rep creates a quote or order, the line item’s quantity will continue to be used to calculate the total price meanwhile, the quantity tier attribute is used to determine the appropriate price tier for the item this allows for tier based pricing based on specific attributes such as the number of employees or units however, the quantity tier attribute becomes irrelevant when the price model is set to tiered , as the tiered model already handles pricing based on quantity ranges directly create a quote or order with the price tag now, we can create a product called teamflow pro and link its standard price book entry to the price tag we just created next, we can proceed to create a quote for an account with an estimated number of employees set to 80 log in to salesforce and navigate to nue on salesforce go to accounts , and create a new account in our example, we created an account named “smart revenue ” edit the account to set the number of employees to 80 create a new opportunity for this account and set up a primary quote for it within the quote, search for the product teamflow pro and add it to the quote, setting the quantity as 1 click on the price tag icon to view the pricing details you will see that the price tier “50 200” is applied, which sets the unit price to $8, though the quantity is 1 in the line editor, set the quantity to 100 the total amount will update to $9,600, reflecting 12 months for 100 users at a unit price of $8 each save the quote, and finalize it into an order \# # renew with price adjusted to true up amount the customer smart revenue has grown rapidly in size at renewal time, smart revenue now has 250 employees the sales rep would like to renew the customer with the price adjusted to the true up amount based on the current number of employees the sales rep first updates the "number of employees" field of smart revenue to 250 then she can follow the steps below to renew while adjusting the price to the true up amount navigate to accounts, select the account ("smart revenue" in our example), and click "manage customer lifecycle" click "renew" for 12 months, and click "add to cart" click "adjust price", and select the option "true up price to current quantity tier", and click "add to cart" the video below provides step by step guides to walk you through this scenario \# # putting it altogether this feature allow users to create custom quantity tier attributes for price tags, enabling more flexible and accurate pricing models based on various determinants other than the product's unit of measure (uom) this is particularly useful for scenarios where pricing is influenced by factors such as the number of active users, integrations, or other metrics
